Squeeze Casting of Automotive Parts
Add to my favorite
2011-02-23
With an increasing concern on vehicle weight reduction from global car manufacturers, the demand for lightweight automotive components continues to grow. Squeeze casting is an established forming casting process that is able to produce lightweight, high integrity automotive components that can be used for structural applications. Recently the squeeze casting process has been used in different aluminum alloys to produce near-net shape components requiring high strength, ductility, pressure tightness or high wear resistance. Squeeze casting has been proven to be equipped with an economical casting process for mass production application and provides design and material engineers with an alternative to conventional casting process, such as gravity permanent mold (GPM), low pressure die casting (LPDC), sand cast aluminum/ iron, and high pressure die casting (HPDC).
