In developing its growth strategy Barton Cold-Form has identified a number of key investment potentials to strengthen its already extensive and varied manufacturing capabilities. Late last year it installed a new Tesa-scan Optical Measuring Machine. Now it has placed the order for a new SMART NP 14DD pointer.

The planned investment became crucial when Barton succeeded in securing new automotive business, which will immediately put a million parts onto the new pointer, due for installation in July.
The company considered two Italian machinery suppliers but a visit to the SMART facility in Tortona impressed the Barton team with the advanced technology it produced and the order was placed. The new machine will allow Barton to point or dog from M3 to M14 diameter, which says, sales director Andrew Nuttall, "pretty much covers our full range as well as providing us with additional drilling capacity to back up our existing machine capability."
The SMART NP standalone pointer has a high speed electrospindle and a unique closed circuit cooling system for the tooling, which provides the capability for a wide range of chamfering shapes at very high production speeds - resulting in excellent quality finished parts. The work cycle is computer controlled and set-up and adjustments are rapidly achieved using servomotors managed from the controlled panel.
"Barton Cold-Form is committed to strategic investment," says Andrew Nuttall, "where we see opportunities for volume business that builds on our current competences."
