ASTRA Eyes 55% Car Market in Indonesia

PT Astra International Tbk, an automotive group, is targeting market share of 55% until the end of this year, following the positive performance during the first seven months.
Data of Indonesia Automotive Industry (Gaikindo) recorded sales of Astra Group in January-July period as much as 355,427 units or grew 28.5% from the realization in the same period last year, when the company sold 276,612 units.
 “We targeted Astra Group’s market share between 55% and 56% until the end of this year,” said Sudirman M. R., Director of Astra International and President Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) on August 15.
He did not explain in detail as car market in Indonesia is not yet stable following the impact of down payment increase which will be evaluated after Eid-ul Fitr.
Referring to the sales target of Gaikindo which set at 875,000 units this year, Astra’s market share is estimated to reach 481,250 units. Thus, it will not impossible for Astra to reach the target since last month the giant automotive company has sold 355,427 units.
Sales of Astra Group is still mostly contributed by PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) as it sold 238,583 units of car during the first seven months or 67.12% of the total sales of Astra Group (Bisinis Indonesia).
