Among the everyday, commonplace items that are never seriously considered (until there is trouble) are pipes. They are veins of our house, car’s fuel system, water intakes and waste disposal, and gas to our stoves and furnaces. As critical as they are in their operation, just as equally important is how they fit together. Leakage at the joints is the major cause of liquid and gas transfers failures and poor performance. Let’s explore the history of pipes and how they attach, with special attention to threaded connections. The general consensus on definition is that pipes are of thicker and tubes are of thinner wall construction. However, while pipes are usually considered to be thick, heavy, major construction uses objects, that are not always true. We shall use the term pipe as a general term throughout this discussion.
