2015-02-02

Based on the production and sales figures in Japanese carmakers' press release, in 2014 Japan produced a total of 26.21 million units of vehicles in the world, up 3.4% from the previous year, setting the highest record in history for the third consecutive year. Toyota's production reached 10.28 million units, up 1.7% from the previous year and likewise set a historic high record.

Despite the dim sales in Japan's domestic automotive market, Japanese carmakers are increasing overseas production owing to booming sales in North America and Asia. Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, Mazda, and Fuji Heavy Industries all have substantial increase in overseas production. Among them, Mazda increased 32.2% over the previous year, Fuji Heavy Industries increased 14.1%, and Daihatsu increased 16.6%.

The figures show that in 2014 Japanese carmakers' domestic production was 9.218 million units, up 1.2% from the previous year while overseas production was 16.992 million units, up 4.7%.
