CNC Machining Master: Jiong-Ming Wang of Fu Yi Company

“Upgrade of Skills & Machine Tools Boosts Continuous Growth in CNC!”

by Tanya Shih, Fastener World Inc.

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) has become an indispensable part for precision-oriented industrial processing. If you regard CNC as merely a stage within the processing procedure, you are completely off base. As human’s techniques and experience continue to build up and machine tools continue to upgrade, CNC has evolved to be able to satisfy all fields that require precision, gradually broadening the CNC market. Fu Yi is one benefited by this market. General manager Jiong-Ming Wang says, “The CNC market continues to grow!”

Fu Yi specializes in the development of components. With over 20 years of CNC machining experience and techniques, general manager Wang is good at analyzing materials, determining how to machine, programming, and customizing precision products that correspond to clients’ demand. “It is necessary to have the right tool before you can complete the work.” Wang says, “A very skillful engineer will still be dragged far behind if he does not have an up-to-date machine tool. Engineers and machine tools are inseparable.”

Fu Yi uses Swiss type CNC lathes, mills, drilling and automated milling machines from Japan with the available processing range from 1 to 60mm, which are able to process materials like copper, aluminum, iron, nylon, etc. Forging of new materials is also available. Fu Yi’s products are applied in automobiles, motorbikes, electric & pneumatic tools, and valves. In addition to supplying the domestic Taiwanese market, Fu Yi has cooperative relationships with customers in Europe, Americas, and Southeast Asia. Wang hopes to create the opportunity through this interview to establish direct trade with overseas markets and boost its export up by 10% per annum.

Fu Yi has recently around 8 cooperative partners, who supply products with a defect rate below 0.002ppm, while Fu Yi takes the responsibility for quality control and packaging before shipments, all for the purpose of ensuring clients’ getting the best quality. Wang is optimistic about the market of CNC machining; however, over 50% of CNC companies in Taiwan still do not quite excel in marketing and increasing their brand awareness. Although application of protective patents is not prevalent in the CNC market, Wang says, “As long as there are remaining resources, CNC companies should invest more time to build up their own brands as the first step for expanding business in the global market.”
