When we just arrived at the 172,800sqm headquarters of Taiwan Shan Yin International Co., Ltd. based in the Benjhou Industrial Park, Kaohsiung, President Jack Su was preparing his scripts for a speech on industrial transformation in an university. Since its inception in 1984, Taiwan Shan Yin has been only specialized in the manufacture and marketing of various fasteners in different materials and applications, but now it has expanded business to 4 major segments including precision components, biomedical apparatus, chemical coating, and laser surface treatment. With the general results, the company is expected to achieve the goal of becoming an entrepreneurial group.

Taiwan Shan Yin is very good at automobile screws; however, it prefers much more of the R&D of construction and furniture screws. 46% of its fasteners are for construction application, which accounts for the highest rate, followed by patented fasteners (26%), OEM service for European & U.S. big companies and importers (23%), and others (5%). To consider the patents for construction application, it has obtained over 80 certificates in the EU, the U.S., Taiwan, and China.

The recently released SKTII series in 2013 include BIMATE with tapping performance into soft and hard wood, SUPER especially designed for high-quality hard wood, and EURO DECK SCREW designed for the European market, which does not require pre-drilling and which can keep the wood fastened and intact after high tapping speed. “Each screw is a fine work of arts,” President Jack Su had a perfect note of his products.

“Don’t you think that the innovations can be realized easier in construction applications?” President Su asked vigorously in the interview. He said that the company never stops releasing new products every year whether the release is based on a customer’s demand or required by the company itself. What’s more, it succeeded in establishing a new image of “innovation” with artificial dental implant. Its own brand “BIOMATE” has also achieved great success in the market. Taiwan Shan Yin, which values its own brand a lot, is not only producing and selling fasteners, but is also building a “manufacturing service industry” that can touch one’s heart, that develops and manufactures prior to customers’ demand, and that provides the best samples for experience. This is the fulfillment of “innovation, honesty, and sharing” in business.

Always Releasing New Products and Thinking of Being Better to Get a Foothold in the Industry

In order to produce high quality fasteners, Taiwan Shan Yin, which has been certified by manufacturing regulations and EP certificates including TS 16949, ISO 9002, CNLA, reach, echa, and RoHs, never compromises on the quality of raw materials. “Careful selection of materials is what the success is originated from,” said President Su in response to the issue of Chinese wire import to Taiwan if the Cross-Straits Service Trade Agreement is signed. He emphasized that an industry setting the increase of competitiveness as its goal will definitely know where to place the right man.     

Having been a “fastener-ist” for over 30 years, President Su can especially feel the change of Taiwan fastener industry. When asked about the competition from other countries, President Su said, “The competition has never been so natural as breathing.” This sounds very easy but is in fact an abstruse expression. Knowing itself, having everything done well, and eyeing on the future, Taiwan Shan Yin, using a chameleon as its symbol, can not only get through challenges safe and sound, but also grow further with a more prosperous future.
