China Welcomes Victory on EU Fastener Antidumping Case

Last Friday WTO determined the final result of EU antidumping case against the import of fasteners from China and ruled EU lost the case. EU has imposed antidumping duties on Chinese fasteners within the range of 26.5-85% since 2009. The measures and duty rate calculation adopted by the EU were ruled against the international trade regulations. China expressed its welcome to the result and considered it a great victory, which also reinforced the confidence of WTO members toward the multilateral trade system. As the EU considers China to be a non-market economy, it adopted blanket antidumping duties against all Chinese fastener companies unless a company can prove that it is completely compliant with the regulations of the EU. WTO ruled the adoption of such measures was discriminatory. However, WTO also ruled that EU’s keeping confidential of the identity of which company made the complaint did not violate the trade regulation.
