Application of MST/MEMS in Automotive Industry

The applied operation in the automotive industry requires high-quality products and the malfunction under severe conditions should not be likely to occur. Under such environment, sensors must bear advantages of low costs and high reliability. These specifications can be satisfied by continuously using design of MEMS. Micro sensors have gradually replaced many traditional sensors due to the weight reduction and compatibility with power requirement within automobile electronic system. The successful development of micro sensors increases the applications of technology in the automobiles at low costs. At the current stage, sensors for medium sized vehicles include over 50 kinds. However, luxury vehicles have more than 100 kinds. Currently, about 1/3 of sensors are the design result of MEMS (please refer to Table 1). In the meantime, the application of automobile sensors in the consumption and personal electronic products is also classified as a new market for MEMS sensors.
