Automotive/motorcycle component industry in Taiwan is highly export-oriented with high competitiveness. In 2009, the total output value of automotive/motorcycle parts in Taiwan reached NT$202.5 billion while total export value reached NT$177.4 billion, the total export value in 2010 had 28% growth as compared with 2009, reaching NT$227 billion, so far Taiwan has been the largest exporting country for global automobile after market service. In ECFA, the “early-harvest” list includes 33 items like the large products exported from Taiwan to China such as transmission components, bumpers, headlights, taillights, etc. (all under the tariff reduction for auto parts), which will benefit Taiwanese manufacturers to make good use of tariff advantage and master high-end technologies to expand Chinese market.

Automotive industry is the strategic development industry project set in “12th 5-Year Plan” by Chinese government, expecting to actively introduce foreign investment in order to advance automobile technical standards and financial strength. Under the prerequisite, Taiwanese manufacturers should actively strive for Chinese automotive/motorcycle part market. In addition, Taiwan product quality has already had international competitiveness, which can also compete with overseas companies concerning product price, and gradually enter the original factory part supply chain of international car maintenance in China by the tariff free advantage of ECFA.
