General Motors of the US announced on the 26th that GM will lay off 598 workers working on the assembly line of its factory in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil; this lay-off meets the agreement reached by GM and the labor union; these people have been on a paid leave since August of the last year; according to the agreement mediated by the government, if they are not re-assigned to other jobs, they will be laid off before the deadline specified on the agreement, March 26, because the assembly line has not been operating at its full capacity. The labor union pointed out that more workers may be laid off in the future because GM plans to lay off 1,600 workers in total.
