Steel Prices of China Steel in March 2013

2013-03-05
In the downstream of the steel industry of Taiwan, because the global economic condition has been improved and the global steel price has gone up, orders from oversea countries have started to grow; the wait-and-see atmosphere has gradually disappeared; sales have picked up. China Steel has decided that the prices of its regular steel plates and zinc-plated steel remain unchanged and the prices of other types of steel products sold to the domestic market are increased. In March of 2013, the average price hike for steel products sold to the domestic market will be 3.08%, an increase of NTD 612 per metric ton. Steel plates produced in Taiwan have been affected by the vicious competition posed by Japan, Korea and India through steel plates with a lower price. In addition, the market share of imported steel jumped from 21% in Q1 of 2012 to 35% in Q4 of 2012. Such cutthroat competition has been quite detrimental to the steel market of Taiwan, and China Steel will keep a close eye on such unfair competition.
