At an award ceremony held during the Annual Meeting of the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI), Independence, OH, USA, the 2014 IFI Soaring Eagle Award for Technology was presented to Ralph S. Shoberg. The IFI Soaring Eagle Technology Award recognizes individuals who have extensive experience in the industrial fastener industry and who have made significant contributions to the technological advancement of the industry. Shoberg was a pioneer in the development and use of electronics in the testing, measurement and control of the threaded fastener tightening process. He has been granted numerous USA and international patents for transducer and instrumentation inventions. Recently retired, his fastener industry career has spanned over 40 years as lecturer, author, inventor and business owner. Shoberg is the tenth recipient of this award.
